Stabilising the support and paint layer
Contemporary paintings can present their own particular conservation challenges, especially when the support has become distorted or damaged over time. In this case, the artwork was executed on a fibreboard support which had become bowed and fractured in several areas, affecting the stability of both the support and the paint layer.
A particularly distinctive feature of the work is its thickly built-up paint layer, applied directly onto the fiberboard through bold and expressive gestures.
The conservation therefore focused on minimal intervention and the preservation of the artist’s original materials and technique. The deformed board was structurally stabilised, while particular care was taken to secure and preserve areas of vulnerable, heavily textured paint. The aim was to preserve its original surface character and expressive qualities while ensuring its long-term stability and safe handling and display.
