Cleaning

Over the years the painting becoming opaque and it’s original colours are hidden by the layers of dust and nicotine contamination. That’s amazing to see how a good surface cleaning can make a big difference!

Using a carefully selected solvent, those dirty layers can be gently removed from the surface of the painting. After the process the original colours of the painting can shine through again, bringing new life to the artwork.

Damage repair

Restoring damaged painting requires a delicate touch and a deep understanding of artistic techniques. When it comes to repairing a damaged painting, there are various techniques that can be used depending on the specific issues.

Damage may include surface abrasions, water damage, cracking, flaking paint, paint losses or tear repair in the canvas that needs to be repaired. The tears of the canvas can be repaired undetected and the missing paint layer can be replaced by retouching using the same brushstrokes as the artist’s technique.

Varnishing

Aging can cause the varnish layer on a painting to become discoloured and micro-cracks appear on it. Over time varnish turn yellow or dark brown due to effects of light exposure, environment and chemical reactions. This discolouration can greatly affect the overall appearance and vibrancy of the artwork.

Removal of old layers of varnish the original colours of the painting are visible again, and it’s unique and delicate brushstrokes. Once the old varnish has been removed a new layer of conservation-grade varnish can be applied which layer serves to protect the painting and enhance its colours and overall appearance.

Paint Consolidation

Paint consolidation is the process of stabilizing flaking or loose paint to prevent further deterioration.

According to one the most important guideline of conservationists, all interventions should be the smallest and always reversible. If possible, I choose to use the water-based materials or the least toxic products if it is necessary.

Portrait conservation

Family portraits are such special treasures that bring generations together. Preserving their beauty is indeed crucial to ensure that future generations can cherish and connect with their family history.

Tear mending

Cleaning and conserving artworks are essential steps in ensuring that a painting regains and maintains its original value.

Additionally, making and photographic documentation of the restoration process can provide valuable records and insights into the conservation work done.
